Construing the First Amendment
The first amendment states “Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of
the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress
of grievances.” This amendment has
become the most construed and most misquoted amendment to this day. It does not say everyone, at every time, at
every place, has freedom of speech, it say that Congress can’t make a regarding
the freedom of speech. Any other
lawmaking entity, or anyway else in this country for that matter is fully
capable of limiting someone’s freedom to speech. This includes record companies, radio
stations, FCC, anyone other than congress.
People misquote this amendment and claim we all have a freedom of
speech, which is clearly not true.
Now for my
personal opinions, I believe that records should have parental advisory
warnings, to make parents aware of the content, because parents have the choice
to limit what their children listen too.
My opinion is let your children listen too it, if you have brought your
children up right, they will be able to discern what is reality and what is
just music, and know wrong from right.
Proverbs 22:6 says “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he
is old he will not depart from it” this doesn’t mean you should shield your
children from everything bad and evil, but instead means to teach your children
how to discern good from bad, reality from fantasy, and so forth.
